Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nathalee DuRose, Founder of Vigor Roots, located in Maplewood, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My goal is to help you to craft a scalp care routine that is easy to maintain and grows your hair with products that are natural, ethically sourced, and organic. My customer is people who are interested in maintaining proper scalp care for ultimate hair growth.
Tell us about yourself
The bottom line is that I love to help people. Looking back at my life, I have spent the last four decades helping others in many different ways. From now on, I want to continue to help. Here is why I am focusing on scalp care. I have learned from experience that hair loss is preventable. From experiments and research, I have learned that poor scalp care has led to the breakdown of scalp cells and reduced hair follicles.
I want to educate women and men to start practicing healthy scalp care routines to prevent hair loss before it's too late. And for those experiencing thinning and bald spots, I encourage them to remove the shame and start rebuilding the scalp instead of adding more damage with hats, wigs, weaves, and braids. Why? Because they are not alone. I have met many people experiencing the same problem, but we have not normalized hair loss. It's still treated as 👉🏾 problem.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting started, product development took over three years to get right. All these trials and errors required patience and consistency to keep going.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Brand awareness and marketing. It takes so many hours to create and capture content. The effort has not paid off however, I need to find the energy to keep going every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Give yourself grace and learn to celebrate small wins.
- The road is not for the swift but for those who can endure it.
- Be patient with yourself and process.
