What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the founder and chief designer of Victory Design. We are designers, naval architects, and marine engineers mostly focused on luxury yachts and motor boats.
Tell us about yourself
I always knew what I wanted to do. My father supported me a lot from the very start - it has always been my passion. I studied yacht design in Southampton, and there I met Renato ‘Sonny’ Levi, who became my mentor. There is a lot of hard work, and everyday limits are pushed, but it is all worth it when the results are seen; the important thing is to keep these goals in mind - and to remain resilient.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think there are many accomplishments for anyone on a day-to-day basis, but I was extremely thrilled when we won the ‘Power Boat of the Year’ award for our contemporary redesign of the traditional ‘GozzO’ from Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things as a business owner is coordinating with those around me. Every day I have to show others the way and make sure everything is running smoothly so that everybody is on the right track. You really have to put everything into a job so that you can accomplish what you want.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be resilient - it’s very easy to give up and tell yourself it doesn’t matter. You can really see results coming only if you give it all.
- Be Passionate - this is key because it gives the whole business an extra push and inspires everyone around you. I think you can tell if a business is led by passion and vision or not.
- Enjoy yourself! - If you do enjoy yourself, it will make the previous steps so much easier, and if you enjoy what you do, you never get tired.
