Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eric Vasquez, Owner of Accio Ads LLC dba Veterans Logistics Group, located in Hawthorne, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're a shipping and logistics service provider. Our goal is to be the most trustworthy transportation Company in the industry when it comes to moving freight. Our current customers vary from Fortune 500 to local Small Businesses - if you're moving commercial goods, we can assist.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in the Air Force for 23 years, 6 Active, and the rest Reserves. I've seen so many shortcomings in the logistics portion of moving parts throughout my career that I saw major areas for improvement, and my goal was to become a vendor for the Government. I started with commercial clients, adding one by one, writing processes and training an internal Team, to where we are now with 36 Team members across several divisions and just breaking into the Gov sector. I want to continue to grow as a certified Service Disabled Veteran, Minority, and LGBT-owned small business to give inspiration to other underrepresented diverse businesses.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having the ability to see my strategic business plan come to fruition and then scaling based on what I have learned from my other previous businesses and companies I've seen grow and fail. Being fully responsible for the pros and cons is actually gratifying to own my work and the work of my team.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Financial cash flow. Hands down. Followed by building a team that buys into my vision and works equally as hard.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep very clean books that track every dollar in and out. Numbers don't lie, and this will help guide your growth.
  2. Grow organically and strategically. Don't bite off more than you can chew until your operations and finances allow it. It will minimize the stress on you and allow you to prioritize areas to focus on.
  3. Be a transparent and honest businessperson. I'm honest with every team member; my goal is to see everyone grow. IF they grow and get paid more, then I naturally will, and so will the business.
