Turn Your Health & Fitness Into Lifestyle - Versatile Fitness
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danny Crawford, Founder of Versatile Fitness LLC, located in Naugatuck, CT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Versatile Fitness LLC was created in 2013 as just an in-person, one-on-one personal training business. Over the years, we have evolved to personal training, group training, online group training, and wellness coaching. Our customers are men and women looking to make permanent lifestyle changes to combat chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases that can be prevented through diet and exercise. We meet our clients where they are and cater to every fitness level.
Tell us about yourself
I was born in the inner city and was surrounded by fast food restaurants and not many healthy options. I lost both parents to heart disease at a young age. My mom was 49, and my dad was 45. As a father of three, I didn't want my children to feel the pain and void I felt when I lost my parents. I knew I had to make a lifestyle change. After adopting healthy habits, many friends and family began asking me to help them. I've always had a passion for helping others and bringing value to people's lives. So I decided to get certified as a personal trainer and began helping people live a more active lifestyle. I've also written a book titled How To Lose Weight And Never Find It Again. In the book, I provide my clients and readers with the 9 tools I used not only to lose weight but to keep it off. It's such a rewarding feeling knowing I am doing my part in helping men and women make changes in their lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments was writing my book How To Lose Weight And Never Find It Again. Writing the book allowed me to reach and help more people all over the country. It has also opened many doors for me to speak at conferences and events around health and wellness.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I've worked in the 9-5 world for most of my life. One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is you may find yourself working longer hours a day. However, I love what I do, so it doesn't actually feel like work. Another challenge as a business owner is some administrative work—website designs, taxes, customer service, etc. I strongly suggest you develop a team to relieve you of some of these tasks so you can focus on what your talents are in your business. When I started my business, I was literally doing everything; sometimes, I would burn out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top three tips I would like to give are - If you are looking to start a business, make sure it's something you are passionate about. It really is true when they say, "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life."
The next one I have to say is to focus on bringing value to your customers instead of focusing on making money. If you bring value, the money will come.
Lastly, customer service is a huge part of your business being successful. Answer emails promptly, be a problem solver, and be open to constructive criticism.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Being an entrepreneur can be very stressful. Always remember why you started and pace yourself. Trust the process, don't rush the process.
