Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Veronica Cintron, Founder of White Lotus Spiritual Healing, located in Providence, RI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
White Lotus Spiritual Healing was founded in 2016. Our focus is on providing traditional curanderia and other healing services as well as continuous education to our community. Our customers vary from people in their 20s to people in their 60s, different cultures, and sexual orientation. We serve all people looking to find healing and balance.
Tell us about yourself
I started the business in 2016; I worked from home for about a year, and in 2017 I rented my first small healing room. I have always been in this world in one way or another. I come from Puerto Rico, where home remedies, living connected with nature, and using healers are part of our traditional culture. I was afraid of judgment or mislabeling by our modern society, that it took until 2016 for me to step into the journey. I find motivation in the sacred space we provide for people in our practice every day. I'm very proud of the work we do and also of my culture, heritage, and experience.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment is that I get to wake up every day and do what I love while providing some good in the world. Sometimes I have to remind myself that long ago, I dreamed of running the business I run today.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things has been maintaining balance and keeping mental and physical health a priority. I think all business owners are constantly thinking about how to keep the business thriving while staying on industry trends, promoting on social media, etc., and we tend to push ourselves to the bottom of the list. I've worked on learning how to find the balance that works best for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Become an expert in your field: Learn as much as you can about your industry; it builds confidence. This includes learning and studying competitors.
- Network and collaborate: If people don't know you or your business exist, they cannot support it. Networking is a wonderful way to meet other business owners or other people in your industry. Once you meet other business owners, this opens up the opportunity for collaboration; there is strength in numbers.
- Branding matters: Have a name, logo, and image that will appear on all of your public information. Customers are more likely to trust you/your product if they recognize a cohesive brand.
