Attract Your Ideal Client - Verdant Heart Virtual Assisting
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abby First, Founder of Verdant Heart Virtual Assisting, located in Midland, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a Business Mentor and Branding Specialist. I focus on helping newbie or floundering heart-centered entrepreneurs/small business owners find their true niche and then make it visually appealing with a custom brand package.
Tell us about yourself
I was in the middle of postpartum depression with my first child, floundering about my life's purpose, and my best friend asked me to handle her social media graphics for her new business. This was a life raft that I clung to, that slowly helped me conquer the PPD, and I eventually started offering those services to the public. As my client base grew, I realized that I was doing a lot of mindset and niching work with my clients - helping them figure out their own business and branding basics, just so I could do my job! I also discovered that I love the basic mindset and passion behind the business and the combination of science and art in branding. I'm motivated to show up for my clients every day because I know that I'm helping them achieve something bigger, like ripples in a pond.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Doing the thing. Not giving up when it's hard. Being available to hold space for my clients' dreams, even when my life feels crazy.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Definitely time management. It's a juggle to be a work-from-home mom to two littles and making sure that I'm showing up adequately in each area can be a definite struggle.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be willing to experiment with your business model and service offerings. It's ok to pivot, niche further, or completely change.
- Your brand - voice, visuals, values - is what's going to connect you to your own ideal client. It's ok to DIY when you start but don't put professional branding on the back burner for too long.
- Be picky about who you work with! It's hard when you're trying to grow quickly, but doing anything for anyone is a recipe for disenchantment and burnout. Whether you're looking for work or looking to hire, all interviews go both ways. Don't be afraid to say no if it's not a good fit.
