Vegetable-centric Recipes - Veggies Save the Day
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and nutrition but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Katz, Founder of Veggies Save The Day, located in Irvine, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Veggies Save The Day, I share easy vegan recipes influenced by a healthy Mediterranean diet. My goal is to inspire everyone, no matter their lifestyle, to eat more veggies. While some of my core audience identifies as vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based, many people visit my website and subscribe to my email list to incorporate more vegetable-centric recipes into their cooking routine.
Tell us about yourself
When I became vegan a decade ago, I started sharing photos of what I was cooking on Instagram. Soon after, friends encouraged me to start a blog to share my original recipes. When I first started blogging, I really didn't know what I was doing. But over the years, I've taken courses, attended webinars, and traveled to in-person conferences, which have all helped me hone my skills.
I have a love of learning which helps keep me motivated to keep improving so that more people can find and enjoy my recipes.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Leaving my previous career as a senior accounting specialist for a residential real estate corporation has been my biggest accomplishment. When I first started Veggies Save The Day as a hobby, I never imagined I would turn it into a business that would outearn my last corporate job.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The skills needed to be an online business owner are always changing as technology changes and improves. It's important to embrace the change and see it as a positive rather than a negative.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You will never feel 100% ready. But start anyway. You will learn and improve over time.
- Look to other business owners in your niche for knowledge and inspiration.
- Join communities for people in your industry, such as Facebook groups, online masterminds, or in-person meetups. It's very difficult to run and grow a successful business without mentors and a community of like-minded entrepreneurs with all levels of experience.
