Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diana Edelman, founder of Vegans, Baby, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help people find vegan food around the world and help restaurants and other vegan-friendly businesses reach customers. I have a comprehensive website that promotes vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants in Las Vegas, NYC, and destinations around the world, curated plant-based dining experiences, and curate and host vegan foodie and ethical tours internationally.

Tell us about yourself

I've been writing since I could hold a pen and always have been passionate about what moves me. I was in PR for more than a decade before making the jump to writing. I had one of the top 100 travel blogs in the early 2010s, which led to a stint working at a renowned elephant sanctuary in Thailand doing PR, social media, and writing. When I returned back to the states, I wanted to continue my activism and make the world a better place, but through something different. I wanted to make a change by showing people how delicious and approachable vegan food can be and set out to change through VegansBaby.com.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There have been so many I consider big accomplishments. The James Beard Foundation found me and asked me to partner to curate plant-based dinners at the world-famous James Beard House in NYC. I was the first to curate a plant-based dinner highlighting a handful of chefs from a city (Las Vegas). I've also been a partner with the massive Life is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas, curating the vegan Farm Stand line-up. I'm the exclusive vegan tour curator for Alluring Africa. And my tours have been named as one of the best vegan tours in the world by Travel + Leisure, Fodor's, and Newsweek. But truly, I think the biggest accomplishment is getting notes from readers and followers who tell me my work has helped them go vegan.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The ups and downs of finances. It's not for the faint of heart, particularly when clients are in the restaurant industry.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure it's something you love and can eat, drink and sleep it when you're getting it going. And forever.
  2. Find a niche.
  3. Network and build a community.
