My Spiritual Shenanigans - Vasundhra Gupta

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vasundhra Gupta, Founder of My Spiritual Shenanigans, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a trauma-informed life coach, spiritual writer, and speaker that is deeply passionate about helping people wake up to who they truly are and remember what they’re here to do.

I love blending ancient spiritual practices with modern psychology to write, teach and coach about all things self-development. My core belief in my business is that life is our greatest teacher, and if we can learn how to work with it, we can constantly access newer levels of joy, freedom, and inner peace.

Tell us about yourself

I had no plans to get into the space of coaching or writing - in fact, I am a graduate in Computer Science and a former Cyber Security Consultant. What inspired me to start My Spiritual Shenanigans was my own spiritual awakening: one day, I saw 11:11 on the clock, and the Universe’s mystical and magical phenomenon began.

My journey of deep shadow work and healing led me to resign from my “dream job,” writing full-time about psycho-spiritual topics to attract my first client, who convinced me I needed to coach her. There’s been no looking back ever since - every day, I’m constantly inspired by the Universe’s plan for me, and I’m grateful to be able to be a part of its many projects. As my husband puts it, this work makes my noodle happy!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe that by picking my passion as a profession and finally closing the doors to what society says we should do to be successful, I’ve given many people permission to listen to their own dreams and aspirations. While I don’t treat my work as a business, I do feel amazed that over 500,000 people from around the world have read my articles, and hundreds of individuals have benefited from my workshops, coaching, and training.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

This journey as a solopreneur has been the biggest teacher for me: from learning how to “sell services” and not appear gimmicky, To facing tons of rejection on a daily basis, and from doing it all (tech, marketing, creative, HR, sales, you name it), to not getting sucked into workaholism because you’re just so passionate about what you’re doing — there’s really a LOT that anyone who dares to put themselves in this position faces.

I wouldn’t say that these challenges can’t be overcome, but I had no clue what to expect back then. I’d still do it all again if I had to, though!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. First - you don’t have to do it all yourself. Means collaborating with people, hiring virtual assistants, and sometimes, if it means getting your husband to click photos for your website, do that! While your business is your baby, remember that it takes a village to raise a child. Let help come in.
  2. Let your body lead your business, not your brain. I strongly believe that our nervous system is the biggest asset we have in business because it will tell us exactly how much work we need to do without burnout, how much time we want to spend on admin versus client work, and so on. If you only focus on what the mind says, you might get lost in the noise of endless checklists and failures. If you’re not aware of what it’s like to listen to your body, please do your business a favor and develop that connection!
  3. Always a student, never a master. That’s my personal anchor to remind me to keep coming back to fundamentals, continuing education, being open to client feedback, being willing to try new things, and then some. I strongly believe that those entrepreneurs that are willing to always be a learner and adapt to constant market demands are the ones that eventually become true leaders in the industry.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Money is important, but what makes a business truly successful is how personal the touch is. Bring all of you, even your crazy ideas, on board because it’s YOU that does this business so in demand. People admire your energy and your ability to hold a vision for your business (and for yourself, AND for them).

If you can truly believe and put your heart into what you’re doing, the Universe has ways to make things work out for you. All the best!
