Methods of Natural Healing - The Valvo Technique
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rosina Valvo, Founder of The Valvo Technique, located in Colts Neck, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a CranioSacral Therapist specializing in chronic pain, myofascial, and Somato Emotional Release work. I combine different body-healing modalities to produce the best result for each client's individual needs. Usually, the first words I hear from my clients are, "I've tried everything, you are my last resort." Most of my clients have been suffering from chronic pain from "dis-eases" in the body, accidents, injuries, or past surgeries or traumas for many years that has not been resolved with any other means and is also causing emotional distress and a great loss to the quality of their lives.
Tell us about yourself
I was born with an "undefined" neurological and digestive disorder that, by age 11, led to migraine headaches and was accompanied by neck and jaw pain, digestive issues, and even learning challenges. I was in chronic pain, drugged, and usually sleeping through the day. I started to get relief with a more natural method and found CST in my late 30s and finally got my life back!
I love to heal people; this is my motivation! Combined with my formal bodywork training, I am also an Intuitive Empath and Clairaudient, which assists greatly in "tuning in" to other people's bodies and gives me the ability to know what people in chronic pain are experiencing, and I can help them! Just seeing someone who has been in pain for years get up off of my treatment table and say... "OMG, I feel so much better!!" gives me the motivation to jump out of bed in the morning and want to get started!! I love my work, I love my clients, and I feel blessed to have been given the gift of healing.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been an LMT for over 37 years and have been practicing CranioSacral Therapy for the last 23 years of that. It was in its infancy at that time; no one knew what CST was or most bodywork modalities for that matter. Not to brag, but I consider myself a trailblazer in the sense that I have been able to stick with it, promote it, teach it, and bring it to a place in the current day where complementary medicine modalities, in general, are better understood and utilized by the general public. This journey has not been easy, as I have been demeaned, mocked, and basically discredited on a regular basis, not just by the public but also family and friends, very rarely supported, but I stuck with it, and I am so proud of what the work has become and how widely accepted it now is!! I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment in helping to move my profession forward.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Staying consistent!! Going through the cycles and changes, holidays, inflation, and political and financial climates all affect my clients' ability to do their sessions and therefore have great effects on my business. Also, my work is completely dependent on me, and if I'm ill or having a bad day and have to cancel clients, I lose my income for the day/week which brings hardship to me and makes it difficult to stay in a high positive state for my clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Sit down and plan it out! - Write it out and be clear.
- Create your "Ideal Client/Customer" - be specific on who you want to serve
- Work on yourself to find your fears and shortcomings about having your own business. Do emotional clearing/spiritual work, take good care of your body and its needs, rest and get good sleep, pay yourself, balance work and play and enjoy your life!
- Educate yourself on money and current business practices, learn the proper way to do your bookkeeping, taxes, and paperwork, create a schedule and stay consistent!
- Consistency, repetition, and balance create success!! Don't give up when things get hard; it's just growing pains... learn from it!!
