What's your business, and who are your customers?
Uzza is more than beauty and skincare. Our deepest mission is to share the knowledge North-African cultures have on healing plants. We believe in nature and see Uzza as a bridge that connects cultures and knowledge through ethnobotany. Our customers love our brand because, through Uzza, they find a way to connect with their skin.
Tell us about yourself
Uzza was born in Barcelona in 2019, but the seed of the project was sown during the summer of 2018 in a garden with damask roses in Marrakech, chatting with friends and drinking mint tea while Yasmine Hamdan was playing in the background.
When we started Uzza, we talked about the need to create a brand that was able to listen to and treat all skin types — knowing them for real. The need to radically change the concept of “inclusiveness” in the beauty industry and make it truly inclusive so that no one else feels excluded because of being “different.” Uzza is more than a brand that sells creams: Uzza is the place to talk with your skin and take care of what you are.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The thing I’m most proud of is if the community were building. Some of my most meaningful connections have happened through Uzza.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a solo entrepreneur, solitude during tough times is hard to manage.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If you can do it with a cofounder who is aligned in values and vision, go for it!
- Share! Share your ideas, doubts, fears, and success. The more your thoughts get out there, the more insights you’ll get.
- Take care of yourself.
