Urban Vintage Clothing - Urbnvtg
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Annette Torsarkissian, Founder of Urbnvtg, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Here at Urbnvtg, we offer gender-inclusive streetwear clothes in various sizes. Our customers range from different ages and ethnicities. However, we noticed that our most common age groups consist of 24 to 35-year-olds.
Tell us about yourself
I was motivated to start my own business because I had a passion for sustainable fashion. In the beginning, there weren't a lot of sustainable clothing options other than thrift stores. However, going to thrift stores, I noticed the never-ending aisles of clothes and felt they could somehow be reinvented. I then took it upon myself to rework pieces by mixing items and adding a new flare to them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment, I would say, is being able to have my business become a reliable source of income. When starting a business, a lot of funds are needed to start up, and the process requires a lot of trial and error. Money comes and goes when there are new things to try or essential equipment needed. However, once you start learning and growing, it means a lot, and it creates the realization of how my customers and supporters can make this possible. Thanks to all those who support me, my passion is now my full-time job.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
When starting my business, I struggled with using social media. Social media, if done right, can boost your business and reach complimentary users that fit your target audience. As great as that sounds, I wasn't aware of how much work would be required to operate a functional and effective account. I had to make appealing content that would catch viewers' attention, I had to be interactive, and most importantly, I had to remain consistent. It requires a lot of practice, and it can still be a struggle. However, once you're organized, it can be a big help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you are looking to run your own business, I would advise that you keep your finances organized, have a work-life balance, and not give up. Starting a business is a huge investment that requires funds if not organized, it can be hard to track. Dedication is required; however, do not get too consumed by work, as it can lead to potential burnout. Not everything is going to get accomplished right away, so don't give up. While it may appear that things are going wrong, that's when you learn and grow. It's not easy, but with patience and consistency, there'll be changes in yourself and your business over time.
