What's your business, and who are your customers?
Upgraded Formulas is a company dedicated to helping people optimize their health by identifying mineral imbalances and using stabilized nano mineral supplements. We advise clients to always test, not guess and order a hair tissue mineral analysis so they can get personalized product selections from our team of nutritionists.
Tell us about yourself
It all started when my mother got sick many years ago. Test after test, doctor after doctor, they couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, and she struggled to feel better. In the midst of this, I was also developing unexplained fatigue and brain fog and became concerned that if I couldn't help myself, how could I help her? I eventually discovered hair testing through my search of trying to figure out how I could help both myself and her, but even that wasn't enough when I realized most supplements out on the market were too difficult for people to break down and absorb. Once that light bulb turned on, I knew I had to run with this idea to help others in the same predicament.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been making effective products that work and having people come back with hope in their lives. It's a very humbling experience to hear people review our products and says they're finally sleeping again, they were able to pinpoint their issues, the HTMA consult they booked, or they're happier in general. That's the goal, to truly make a difference.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are many things in being a business owner of a company that can come as challenging, but one of the hardest things is the balance to continue to grow whilst supporting everyone on this journey. There is hiring even when business is good, understanding that there is never enough time to do everything I'd like to do, and building a great culture can't come at the expense of getting things done. In the end, though, maintaining that vision, that goal we all have in common, and consistent communication amongst everyone make us stronger and keep things moving forward.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My first tip would be to only do something you truly care about because we need to work from a place of passion. If you enjoy what you do, then you will transcend that energy into your performance. My second tip would be to work on something people are willing to pay for that not just interests you but is innovative. The third would be to be patient in the journey. Patience is needed to help with control when we want to jump to something, to not overreact, to respond well, and to not be angry. It allows us to sit back, recollect and assess before we act. This is important because when running a business, there are so many things coming at you it's hard not to just react to get through things.
