What's your business, and who are your customers?

Unlimited Potential is where skincare meets wellness. We help men and women 40+ years young relieve stress, find balance, and practice self-care. Our wellness facial treatments combine nature with science. We educate and custom-design a self-care treatment for each client to integrate at home.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a Registered Nurse for 25 years, and I made the shift to become an entrepreneur. With challenging skin, acne has been upon me since adolescence. After losing my Dad in 1998, I filed for divorce. In the process, I looked like a teen going through puberty with grade 4 inflammatory acne. Yikes! In 2002, I enrolled in a part-time esthetics program. Studies were at night and on weekends while I worked my corporate day job.

In 2003, Unlimited Potential was born! Tagline was "a wellness skin care studio." Fast forward twenty years. I recently learned the meaning of Unlimited Potential. Me getting out of my own way, so I may Unlimit my own Potential. I can now better serve my clients with a clearer vision. I am compelled to share wellness techniques for health and balance. My own personal journey entailed self-care, self-actualization, and many reinventions in the process. Unlimited Potential is now "where skincare meets wellness."

The pandemic has been a great inspiration. I now share natural facial treatments of facial reflexology and Gua Sha for healing and promoting wellness. I enjoy treating each client as a whole rather than just the face. I am grateful that nursing has led me to self-employment. Having a flexible schedule as an RN allowed me to build my clientele. I reside in Guilford, Connecticut. Outside of my practice, my passions are yoga, cold water immersion, the art of food, and connecting with others to share my journey. ☺️

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have learned from the pandemic, which has led to reinvention. I have redesigned my website and services. In a busy, fast-paced world, clients need tools to take home for self-care. Knowing what works and what makes sense to me is most important in the services I provide. I have created a wellness focus with services. Facial Reflexology and Gua Sha fascinate me, and I have redesigned the facial treatments to include these modalities.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur involves dealing with highs and lows. Self-care is a necessity. I allow myself "just be" days to reset and regroup in order to refuel my energy and creativity. These days are very humbling and necessary for learning and growing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Support systems are so important. Having a team of others to share ideas, have fun with, and help with problem-solving. This creates a healthy balance physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  2. I have learned what business tasks I enjoy and what I do not enjoy. I like saving my energy for skin care treatments that contribute to a positive customer service experience. For the accounting and IT tasks, I have others helping me.
  3. I never stop learning. There are many great educational resources for esthetics. Whether at a trade show, a class, or a news article, it's important for me to always keep fresh with new information and content. I can then share with clients and on social media platforms.
