Unique Handmade Accoutrements - UnimaginativeToggery

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Charli Siebert, owner of UnimaginativeToggery, located in Redondo Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is all about jewelry! I simply LOVE to make them, and I can't keep them all for myself. And I would because every piece is one of a kind, and I work very hard on each one. I have made over 400 pieces, and no two are the same.

My customers love assemblage and eclectic and goth and crystal jewelry. I also have a number of hag stone pieces available for sale. I collected all the hag stones myself from San Pedro, CA.

Tell us about yourself

Hi! I'm Charli. An 80's born child of Orange County. In my youth, art and fantasy were my siblings and my outlet. Always creative, my 15 yr old self discovered Adobe Photoshop, and a new passion was born. I've created many different pieces of digital art ever since.

As I grew older, I began to experiment outside the digital realm. I started making all kinds of things, jewelry among them. At the beginning of the pandemic, I really became more focused on making my necklaces and earrings sets.

I support:

EDS(Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome research), #LGBTQ+, #TransRrights, #AnimalShelters, #homelessShelters, #DisabilityRights, #DomesticViolence programs & shelters #WomensRights

My point of view:
I really just make what I like and hope someone else likes it too I'm always inspired by the jewelry components I find at #etsy! I always tilt towards the darker side of things in life and in imagination, so lots of pieces are inspired by The Monsters of legend.

My goal/goals:
I'd love to be able to open a storefront one day with my jewelry and art. Hopefully, next to a bakery, I can have fresh croissants every morning and chocolate cake every night! I create every day and love what I do!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Just simply being a business owner and selling what I make with my own two hands is my biggest accomplishment so far. As a business owner, I have many goals and plans for the future.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping current and learning all the new ways of internet advertising. Getting your name and product out there to be seen by the right people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't quit! If you're not getting any sales, keep at it and switch up your ad graphics.
  2. Don't steal art! Make sure you have permissions for whatever you use that isn't yours.
  3. Make sure every customer has a great experience buying from you.
