Tell us about yourself

I have always been a big fan of good board games and spending time with friends and family. A few years ago, my girlfriend (now wife) wanted to get me a "board game of the month" present for my birthday. When she went to look for this gift idea online, it didn't exist!

Fast-forward a few years, and I was playing several board games with friends over the holidays. We were all having so much fun, and one of my friends pointed out that I had all these great, unique games that no one in our group had heard about.

She suggested that I should create an "of-the-month" club for good board games. And with that, UnboxBoardom was born!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping grow my idea into an actual business. I love introducing people to the great hobby of board games and sharing my love for games!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is learning how to balance and learn everything that comes with running a small business. Also, it is hard to give up some responsibility and ask for help outside of your business after trying to do everything. You can't do it all!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have patience. You may have a great idea and want to enact it immediately, but things take time.
  2. Know what you're good at and what you need help with. If you're not good at something (or don't enjoy it), get someone to help.
  3. Be passionate and enjoy what you're doing. When it no longer becomes fun or enjoyable, don't do it anymore. Life is too short :)
