Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Sparrgrove, co-owner of Udder Brothers Creamery, located in Boscobel, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We have a main ice cream shop, but we also raise our own meat, selling meat in our store. I am a veteran of US Navy Seabees; we are identical twins and run our farm and store together with our wives.

Tell us about yourself

We started milking cows together in 2008 when I finished my enlistment in the navy and when Justin got done with college. We started our store in 2017. we love being self-employed; it gives us the freedom to do more things with our kids and have them with us when working.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We hire a lot of high school kids, and good to see them grow and learn how to enter the workforce and learn good customer service skills.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing people and all their schedules to try and keep our business growing and reaching new customers.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Location knows where the people are.
  2. Do your research what's your competition.
  3. Try new things; don't be afraid to try something it might work out for you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Thanks for sharing our story; we appreciate that. This is what we have found to try and stay being a small farmer; extra income to help pay the bills makes those decisions easier.
