Take Your Hummus for a Hike - uBu Foods

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alex Galt, Co-Founder of uBu Foods, located in Green Bay, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're uBu Foods. Locally, we're known for our hummus, which we've been making for more than 20 years. We've been 'the hummus vendor' at area farmer's markets for a decade. This past year, our big idea was, what if we could make hummus for hikers? So we're shifting gears and moving towards the outdoors industry.

Tell us about yourself

My wife and I have been in business together since 2006. We love working and making our lives together. It's been amazing for our family.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We love being both a local business in Northeastern Wisconsin and a national business sold in stores from coast to coast. Both ends of that spectrum are incredibly satisfying.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Every now and then, you wake up, and it's not clear what to do next.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The most important thing is to listen to your customers. Have one or two products that have a very high-profit margin so that you can have several others that have exceptional value. Be curious.
