What's your business, and who are your customers?

We own a vegan meal plan/catering business. Our customers come from all walks of life. They do not just have to be vegan.

Tell us about yourself

I am a chemistry professor who has been vegan for 24 years. I first began learning to make vegan food in 1995 so that I would have tasty recipes that I enjoyed in order to make my transition easier. I received lots of compliments on my recipes. Also, my recipes are highly nutritious as a result of my chemistry/nutrition background. As a result, my sister and I started a restaurant that later converted into an all-meal plan/ delivery business. We have been in business for over 10 years now.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping customers to become healthier and to overcome certain illnesses through a healthy lifestyle.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The unpredictability of the food business. Some weeks it can be very busy, and other weeks, it may not be as busy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do not listen to people who will tear down/criticize your ideas/dreams.
  2. Save up enough money.
  3. Be ready to work around the clock.
