Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in content creation but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jackie J. Singer, Co-Owner of Twinco New Media, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I co-own a social media services company with my family that, for ten years prior to COVID, focused on customizing strategies and management of small businesses social media accounts. Currently, we are developing a series of digital products so that our customers can "Rescue Your Social Media." With our help via templates and tutorials, Rescue Your Social Media helps entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and family businesses have the ability to manage and create their own professional social media strategies and presence at a fraction of the time and cost it would take to have someone do this for them. They are empowered to RESCUE their posts, bio, brand boards, stories, reels, and even one sheet for events, just to name a few. Our series of products will be launching in the next six weeks.
Tell us about yourself
As a teenager, I pursued a career as a singer, songwriter, musician with my twin sister, Mollie, and my mom, Jackie, and her twin sister, Mollie (yes, there were 4 of us, and yes, they are twins who named us after themselves!). After promoting our own music and realizing no one was going to help us - except us, we learned and developed methods that worked for us and a few others in the music industry we had met along the way. That's how our business grew, and eventually, we had clients in other creative mediums like authors, professional speakers, and an app/tech startup, among others. What motivates me each day is knowing that each time someone presses a post, whether I am ghostwriting their content or my twin sister designed the graphic/edited the video, there are so many lives who can be touched by that content. That's a beautiful thing. I will never tire of how even from behind the scenes, we all can have a ripple effect.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that every day I get to work alongside the people I love! And not just in social media but another new project. My family means everything to me, and that's why we're producing a podcast together about bridging the past with the present in order to make a brighter future. What we do, what we say, how we act to have an impact on others. And I'm starting with my mom and aunt and sharing their life stories, their careers, their businesses, and how they eventually came to impact the lives of my twin sister and me when they adopted us.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I would say the toughest part is staying focused on your goals, which often means turning down work that takes you off track or consumes too much of your time. It's imperative that you see the macro as well as the micro.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My three suggestions are to not get stuck on your website, apps, or tools, just start your product or service and test it to see how your pitch reaches people. Once you make a sale, make sure to survey to see how they could be better served and keep iterating from there. Remember, perfection is unattainable; there will ALWAYS be room to improve, but sometimes, you just have to share what you know, the passion you have, and see where it leads you. You might help or inspire something else to do the same! And finally, find a mentor, someone who has been where you have been and already made the mistakes (don't seek advice from someone who does not do what you do, find the pros in your industry, no matter how many say no, all it takes is one to say yes!).
