Small Batch & Handcrafted Goods - Twin Beaters

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Madeline Hagan, Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Twin Beaters, located in Fort Morgan, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a retail food business and make a variety of products, including jams, jellies, pie fillings, hot sauce, condiments, and dry mixes. My customers are people who love trying new foods and appreciate small-batch, handcrafted goods.

Tell us about yourself

I have always had an interest in the DIY lifestyle and have learned a variety of useful skills to incorporate the DIY lifestyle into my life. Part of this was learning to can, and I soon found a love for it! I love canning and coming up with new flavors - seeing my customers' reactions and happiness from enjoying my products keeps motivating me!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When customers love my products and refer their friends and family, or buy products for them!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I struggle with time management as I own this and another business - but I love what I do!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something that you are passionate about and could do every day.
  2. Be smart with your finances - have savings, look for the best deal, and negotiate. Don't be afraid to raise your prices or fees.
  3. Learn new skills, especially marketing. Your product may become obsolete one day, but skills are always needed.
