Ignite the Power Within - Turn Up Your Life Motivation

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Teresa Hawthorne, Founder and CEO of Turn Up Your Life Motivation, located in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The name of my business is Turn Up Your Life Motivation, LLC. We are a women's empowerment and coaching company that helps women embody true self-love and bold confidence so that they can design the life that they desire and deserve. Women go from self-doubt and insecurity about their lives and coaching business to having the skill set, clarity, and confidence to breathe life into that business while creating the best and most authentic version of themselves.

Tell us about yourself

I love this question because doing what I do is a BIG part of what motivates me most days. I can't really say that I chose to become a life coach as much as I can say that "coaching" chose me. Part of my story is that I lacked self-love and bold confidence, and because I lacked these very important qualities, I found myself in situations where I was always in survival mode and picking up the pieces to my life instead of thriving in my truth. I discovered that I missed a lot of opportunities because I didn't have the confidence to go after "the job," "the dream," or "the thing." However, the truth is that it wasn't only that I lacked confidence (that was a part of it), but the bigger issue was that I didn't believe that I deserved it. Once I had a mindset shift about my perspective on life and about myself, things began to change for me, and as I pulled myself out of the daunting situation of lack of self-love and bold confidence, I began to share my story more and more, and by sharing my story, folks began to ask me how they, too, can embody "true" self-love and bold confidence in order to change their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment, to date, as a business owner is hearing the testimonials of the women who I help. Seeing how their interaction with me helped change their internal and external world is "ah-mazing." Additionally, most recently, I was one of the recipients of the most prestigious 2022 New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence Award for my work as an entrepreneur, which I am very honored to have received.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I really think that one of the hardest things about becoming a business owner is busting through the roadblock of fear and being willing to take risks. You cannot achieve greatness if you are afraid to try. Go for what you want and learn from each experience. We all have what we already need on the inside of us to succeed. The job, the dream or the thing is not going to magically appear. We have to be willing to do whatever it takes to reach our milestones and achieve our goals, and operating in fear will paralyze our overall growth in life and business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top 3 tips that I would give to anyone looking to start run and grow a business today are:

  1. First, be about your business of you. Take a personal inventory of not only your strengths and weaknesses but also of any emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical clutter that is preventing you from being your best self because your business can only grow as much as you do.
  2. Embody true self-love, understanding that true self-love/self-care is more than a bubble bath. It's in healthy communication with yourself, believing that you are someone deserving of all good things. Once you are able to operate in that space of "true" self-love, you will show up in life and in your business as the authentic leader that you need to be in order to succeed.
  3. Do not compare yourself to others. Use your own "secret sauce" to move the needle in your business. Sure others may provide the same or similar service as you, but your personal experiences, culture, challenges, style, victories, and personality is unique to you. So, I encourage women to embody their secret sauce and be original in their business model, and I guarantee that, along with quality content or services, this will set you apart from all the rest.
