Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Morgan, founder of Tsirona, located in Fairfax, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own Tsirona, an online health coaching practice for busy, high-achieving women in the prime of their lives - their 30s-50s.
I believe in a world where women can live a healthy lifestyle with ease. I help my clients make small changes to their health that add up to a big difference in how they feel without having to totally change up their current lifestyle. Together, we make the inner and outer shifts they need to create the healthier lifestyle they want.
I offer coaching programs for:
- Healthy Eating
- Stress Management
- Weight Loss
- Emotional Eating
- Spiritual Health
Tell us about yourself
I'm Dr. Kelly Morgan, owner of Tsirona. Most days, you can find me laughing at cat videos, quoting the Simpsons, and thanking my lucky stars that I'm able to work with the awesome women I coach, teach, and hang with. I am a health and fitness professional and motivation expert who knows what it takes to find balance while fulfilling the seemingly endless work, academic, family, social, and personal commitments we all have.
I started out in this industry in 2002 when I was in college. I was your typical know-it-all 20-year-old who was like, "Hey, I've done a few belly dance workout videos. I can teach an entire class on it." Luckily for me, UVA agreed, and I taught my very first fitness class, Cardio Bellydance. It sold out immediately! Suddenly, I had all of these other college students looking at me like some expert. I thought, "Oh no," and I hustled like nobody's business to learn the craft of being a fitness instructor, which they don't really teach in undergrad English programs.
Fast forward a decade later, and I had become legit in the industry, with certifications, a Ph.D., and all. Fast forward again to today, and you'll see one lucky lady (most likely sitting at a computer in yoga pants with a cat on her lap). I've dedicated my work and free time to my greatest love, helping other women like me find the happiness, energy, ease, and grace that comes with a healthy lifestyle. It all started with the nerve to teach a class I had no business teaching at the time.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
When I see a client have a breakthrough in a session or I receive an email about how excited they are about success, it gives me life! Being able to help my clients is my purpose for being in business, so seeing them go through a health transformation is worth every hour I've put into it all.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Some weeks are really productive and fruitful, sales-wise...and some aren't. It's hard to stay positive during the weeks when you feel like you're not being seen.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you are organized - have checklists, a planner, a calendar, Google Drive or Dropbox to keep everything together.
- Don't waste money on things you aren't ready for - you don't need business cards, advertising, employees, or a virtual assistant if you don't have what you're selling 100% ready to go.
- Remember that there is room for everyone - even in a crowded industry - because we all bring something unique to the table for customers.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
You're closer than you think to your health goals, especially if you're already a busy high-achiever. We often make things much harder than they need to be when it comes to ourselves. You likely just need a little push to get going and accountability.
