Creating Change - TRY Coaching
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terry Yoffe, Founder of TRY Coaching LLC., located in New York, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an executive and business coach and consider myself a trusted partner committed to helping clients increase their business performance and personal development. One client says, "Working with Terry pushed me to the edge of my comfort zone. Though uncomfortable at times, being there helped me uncover the internal roadblocks that were holding me back from moving forward in my career. If you are looking for change to help you achieve that change, look no further" I challenge my clients and make them look at themselves to see where their behavior patterns and actions stand in the way of achieving their goals. My clients range from young professionals looking to make changes who can't figure out what to do next to entrepreneurs and leaders in companies. It is about figuring out what stops them from reaching their desired outcomes and making the changes, which are not easy to do. Born out of my coaching profession came my desire to be a podcaster, and this year embarked on my podcast life with Extraordinary Work: Conversations about Creating Change, and I have the opportunity of having wonderful and inspiring conversations with those people that have created change, small or large, in their corner of the world.
Tell us about yourself
My background runs the gamut from being in the fashion world to being in advertising sales to becoming an executive coach and, this year, a podcaster. I was always in the business of helping people, no matter which industry, and out of that inner passion, I was able to navigate from fashion to advertising sales to coaching and podcasting. They all have a common thread and motivation for me: wanting to make a difference in "my corner of the world," whether it was working with clients in advertising sales, helping clients through coaching, or interviewing those people that can create change and offer tidbits and insights to others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having the opportunity of coaching some amazing people that through the coaching process, have gone on to achieving their goals and then some and having the sheer honor of coaching them and having conversations with those people that are making a difference and creating change by using their platform and voice to do so.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Not knowing what comes next, where your next client will come from, how to challenge clients so that they get what needs to be done and follow through, or how my podcasts are going to land with people since I am not a "known commodity" as yet and being willing to take a leap of faith every single day and letting go of one trapeze and swinging in space without a net until you can grab onto the next trapeze. It is a very scary place to be; however, in that space, one challenges themselves to make changes, and then it's on to the next challenge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Make sure that you are embarking on something that you have a passion for and love, and hold onto that thought every day because we don't see the "whole staircase every day, just the immediate stair," as per Martin Luther King. You have to have faith in yourself and know that if it doesn't work out, it isn't a failure; just feedback and allow yourself to pivot and adapt to something else. Be brave, be focused, and be confident.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I have started several businesses, 3 to be exact, and was never sure of any of them, and thus far, they have all worked out. Also, I have learned that our business doesn't define who we are, so don't get caught up in believing that if it doesn't work, it is a reflection on you, and your business is one; they aren't. You are YOU, and your business is an offshoot of you.
