Tell us about yourself
My name is Truett Giles, and I started my company when I was about 12 years old. My parents wanted to start me young by owning a business, so they had me try mowing some lawns. As I got old, I learned that I had a lot of fun mowing and taking care of people's yards. I loved the smile that people had once I was done. The joy that people get when I help them with their lawns is definitely something that keeps me going. Once I hit about 16, I wanted to create a lawn care company that could help everyone. I really started learning how to take care of my customer's lawns. Once I learned how to take care of lawn properly, I really wanted to help more people. Now I'm trying to make sure I have the best equipment for the job and the best employees so I can take care of my customer's lawn like my own.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment would definitely be how far my business has come. I still can't believe that I started with a box truck and just a push mower.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would have to say one of the hardest things about being a business owner is how much responsibility you have. I wouldn't know that it's a bad thing; it's crazy to think how much you grow from all your obligations.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Invest as much as you can into yourself. I found the more I invest in myself, the more my business grows.
- Find your why. Don't go into a business just for the money. Money only solves money problems.
- Don't be scared to fail. We all fail. Just keep at it and learn from your mistakes.
