Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Troy Ericson, owner of Email Paramedic, located in Saint Petersburg, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are Email Paramedic, a top email marketing firm that has generated over $50,000,000 for our clients since 2019. Our focus is on reviving dead email lists to maximize revenue for our clients (hence the name Email Paramedic). Our most popular 'Email List Management' service covers all things email - daily emails guaranteed Primary Tab deliverability and automating processes to gain subscribers, boost engagement, and drive new sales. We're the only company that guarantees Primary Tab Deliverability and re-engagement of inactive subscribers.
As a recognized top 20 copywriter globally, I have helped hundreds of businesses boost their monthly revenue by 5-6 figures just from their email lists. Along with running the business, I also train freelancers to improve their email marketing skills via my Email List Management Certification Program.
Tell us about yourself
I was raised in South Bend, Indiana, and attended Cedarville University in Ohio, where I played college baseball. I dealt with an elbow surgery & some mental complications that forced me to work harder than everyone else. Those same lessons I learned as an athlete apply to my mindset & motivation today. Honestly, I just want to build the biggest empire imaginable within this industry. I've always thought it's important to go big or go home.
In 2019, after my college career was over, I was managing Facebook ads for clients, and my best client wanted to fire me. I didn't let them. I forced them to tell me why. Turns out, they revealed that their main issue was their inability to turn leads into revenue due to their emails ending up in spam folders. So I offered to find a solution and work for free until the problem was resolved. And that's just what I did. I increased their email revenue from $13k/month to a staggering $51k/month that summer.
In 2020, I maxed out my capacity for clients and expanded my services to include coaching and consulting, as well as one-off email deliverability projects. This helped my clients escape the spam folder and the Gmail Promo Tab, resulting in some cases of doubling their email open rates and sales.
In 2021, I made my first hires and scaled my agency to a dozen email list management clients and hundreds of deliverability projects. I also worked with top industry leaders such as Traffic & Funnels, The Sales Mentor, V-Shred, Rich Schefren, Josh Snow, Joel Erway, Ezra Firestone, SmartMarketer, Perry Belcher, 10X Advisor Network, David Meltzer, Sam Ovens, Stefan Georgi, Justin Goff, Jason Capital, Ryan Stewman, Joel Marion, and Alex Cattoni.
In 2022, I further scaled my agency to accommodate dozens of more clients and built the Email List Management Certification Program while speaking on several stages.
Currently, I reside in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I'm commonly referred to as the "Email Paramedic" for my expertise in reviving lackluster email lists and transforming them into lucrative assets for my clients. I also own EmailDeliverability.com, EmailListManagement.com, and MailGenius.com.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I used to be skeptical about building a team, but that all changed in 2021. I wouldn't be where I am today without my team by my side. They're located right here with me in Saint Petersburg, Florida. As a business owner, my greatest achievement is the team I have created. Not only because we've generated an extra $50MM+ for our clients, But because I've watched our entire team grow, mature, and become incredible people that I'm so proud to work beside each day. I have seen them reach both personal and financial milestones and change their lives significantly in just a short time. This is what motivates me. We currently have 9 team members who meet in person and a few remote individuals handling various responsibilities.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It can take a long time to find a hook or angle that works in your ads & marketing. A good campaign lasts for a handful of months or sometimes a year - so you'll need to always pump out new ideas. It can seem like you always need to come up with fresh ideas. To get more ideas, I always keep in touch with my ideal customers to find out what challenges they're facing. And then coming up with an angle that's simple yet new.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Consider all the challenges you and others similar to you face. Write them down. Your next big business idea is likely hiding among them because businesses exist to solve people's problems. When I first began, I noticed that the spam folder was a major headache for businesses, so I set out to solve it. That simple solution has earned me millions.
- Don't keep jumping from one idea to another. Stick with the current plan until you've mastered it and can pass tasks off to your team. Then, feel free to check out new opportunities.
- There's more than one way to do things. Everything is effective to a certain extent. Figure out the 1 to 3 most effective strategies for you and concentrate on mastering them. Stop thinking you have to try every new thing that comes out until you actually have some spare time on your hands.
