What's your business, and who are your customers?

As the Juice Lady, I promote and sell juicers (the best ones on earth!) and my juice and nutrition books. I also host with my husband juice and raw foods detox retreats in beautiful Carefree, AZ.

Tell us about yourself

I discovered juicing when I was very sick with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I was so sick and tired that I could no longer work. And I was only in my late 20s. In my search for healing, I discovered juicing. I changed my diet, starting with a 5-day juice fast. I was very strict, adding only veggies and other organic vegan foods to my juice program. In three months, I was well and able to go back to my friends and life in Southern California. Because my self-designed program was so effective, I decided to go back to school and get a Master of Science degree in nutrition. Helping people find their path to healing is my passion. I love to hear people tell me they are well as a result of my juicing and diet plan. I had no one to help me. It is my pleasure to help people discover the power of juicing and an excellent diet.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating products that have helped to change the world is my greatest accomplishment as the owner of my business. Juicing for Life, which was my first juice book, sold over 2 million copies and was translated into 23 countries. I was part of the first juicer infomercial—The Juiceman Juicer. That introduced the world to juicing, and it forever changed the world. At least in America, there are juice bars in nearly every major city. With great joy, I look back and say I'm so thankful I was part of that. I've written 35 books on juicing and nutrition and have seen thousands of lives change for the better.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner is learning new ways to expand what I'm doing in an ever-changing social media world.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love; the money will follow. When you discover your passion and why you are on this earth, things begin to fall into place.
  2. Love and serve people in the best way you can. A genuine heart shines through, and people want to do business with those who truly care about them.
  3. Establish an irrevocable pension plan and trust for your retirement plan. It is the greatest tax-saving advantage I found. It is far better than an IRA—even a self-directed IRA.
