Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Travis Brown, CMO of Social Boom, located in Aurora, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Social Boom is a community/coaching platform where I help coaches, creators, and consultants grow massive audiences on social media and monetize them. We combine live coaching calls, workshops, and fast-action trainings to help you beat the algorithm and grow your own thriving community of buyers.
Tell us about yourself
My business journey started with people asking me, "How are you doing this?" I was growing a huge following on social, selling my products, and I decided that I wanted to help as many people skip all the obstacles I faced so they could go faster. There are so many "Experts" and Guru's" out there selling products that don't get results, so I decided to document my methods to share with the world. My motivation comes from making an impact by helping people exceed my own success and live the life of their dreams.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is building a team and writing checks every month. Nothing feels better than creating an amazing product that people love and paying my team for their hard work!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is learning that you now officially wear ALL THE HATS. There will be problems in your business. There will be obstacles. You need to take on the mindset of a problem solver to keep moving forward. If you have no problems, you have no business!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The best advice I can give are:
- Start small. Make a minimal viable product and start showing it to people. Let the market help you optimize the product instead of waiting for it to be perfect.
- Get an Irresistible Offer. If your offer isn't selling, there's no reason to build it. Dial in your offer, then build the product.
- Give them what they want. Stop guessing what your audience wants and make the product they need. By asking your audience what they want to learn, what medium they want to learn it in, and how fast they want to go, you'll be creating the product they want, not what you think they want!
