What's your business, and who are your customers?

Transformational Solutions is a life coaching company that specializes in working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, lack of purpose and meaning, or self-destructive behaviors. We have diverse and expert coaches who can work with clients from any background. Our clients are business owners, lawyers, C-suite executives, and clients who are having trouble launching into "adulting." No matter your background, we have a coach who will be the right fit for you!

Tell us about yourself

My name is Seth T. Hall, and I am the CEO and Founder of Transformational Solutions. My experience overcoming mental health struggles, homelessness, incarceration, and substance use was the catalyst for starting a company devoted to helping others overcome their own challenges. One of the most fulfilling parts of this work is seeing clients hopeful and working towards goals that are meaningful and inspiring to them. I love witnessing people going from "surviving" to "thriving"!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the creation of our eight-week online curriculum called thevisionsprogram.com, which is being used by organizations around the US. My team and I spent over a year developing it and building it out. It is a self-determination program designed to help people create a vision for their life, overcome self-destructive behaviors, and develop emotional and practical skills that they will need to achieve their specific vision. It is based on the most impactful workshops I have been running with clients over the past five years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner was finding a balance that is sustainable. I am 100 percent clear that if I do not continue to prioritize my own self-care, that burnout is an inevitability. I schedule time for yoga and swimming, I surf, and I eat healthy Whole Foods. Getting enough sleep is a huge piece of the puzzle as well. I could easily justify staying up until 1 AM working; however, the quality of my work suffers when I don't take care of myself. Self Love is priority number one.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start. Everything I have learned I learned along the way. At first, you will have to do most everything yourself until you actually start making money. I didn't have my first client until a year after I started the business. You'll have many reasons to give up along the way. Don't quit, and you can't fail.
  2. You get what you pay for most of the time. Trying to find the cheapest person to do a job for you many times gets you poor quality work. It sounds obvious, but be sure to do your due diligence in vetting contractors' portfolios, reading reviews, and making sure you aren't just trying to save a few bucks. If you do that, you end up having to pay twice to have someone fix their mistakes.
  3. Under promise, overdeliver. Going the extra mile for your clients and in your work relationships is something people don't forget.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Slow and steady wins the race. Growing too fast without the systems and people necessary to maintain quality kills businesses. Never sacrifice quality for quantity.
