Eat Well and Adventure Often - Trailtopia
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vincent Robichaud, founder, and owner of Trailtopia LLC., located in Rochester, MN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Trailtopia produces Freeze-Dried/Dehydrated meals for on the Go. Cook in the Bag and Eat from the bag. Just add boiling water and wait 10-15 min. Great for backpacking, camping, travel, or just a quick meal at work. No refrigeration needed, shelf-stable for five years.
Tell us about yourself
I have a passion for Cooking and the Outdoors, so I was able to merge those together to create great meals for backpacking. I wanted to make better tasting and nutritious meals than what was already on the market. I also wanted to be inclusive in our meal selection, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
First, being completely self-funded and having my family participate in the business.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Needing to do so many different jobs, not enough time to get everything done.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Keep your accounting up to date, don't let it slip to a later date, it's just much harder to catch up, and you don't have a good picture of your company's financial health. Don't be afraid to ask for help. You don't know everything. Sales, Sales, Sales, you may have great products, but they usually don't sell themselves.
