Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in the electronics, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ahmed Bafagih, the founder of GizmoGrind, based in Toronto, Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

Our mission is to facilitate the movement of used electronics wherever the source to wherever the demand while reducing the carbon footprint of our everyday electronics.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?

In my younger years, I realized the substantial waste in our everyday technology. Devices that too many seemed old after a new upgrade still have value, and I sought a way to reintegrate used personal electronics into society.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm proud of being the first of our kind to offer our service in all of North America. I'm also proud of the big brand names we've had the privilege of working with. But what makes me feel good is the thousands of Trees we've planted with our partner, One Tree Planted, and the community work we've done with YEP(youth empowering parents) and local theaters.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?

Responsibility. The buck stops with the owner. Bad decisions I make may result in the loss of a job of an otherwise great team member.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

Being an executor of a business is to be a decision-maker. Maybe you're naturally decisive. If not, learn to be decisive quickly.
