What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is an insurance agency that specializes in Medicare Solutions, but our niche is the Dual-Eligible space where we help so many of our seniors apply for the Medicare Savings Program and save them 100's of dollars per year! Our customers are ANYONE on Medicare. Our benefit reviews are no-cost, no-obligation!
Tell us about yourself
Coincidentally, my Facebook memory today was of me being let go from my "dream job." I was a single mom with a young child, and I needed to go to work. The first baby boomer-aged into Medicare that year. I was certified to be able to add Medicare to my insurance portfolio and never looked back. What motivates me each day is my ability not just to help seniors but help my growing team of agents live their passion each day. By extension, I'm helping even more people.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I just feel really fortunate to work in a space that allows me financial freedom, and what I do helps people. I also have the ability to do side projects like starting my non-profit here in CT.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing with being a business owner is the pressure. Not of the job because I love what I do, but the pressure I put on myself to be there for my clients and my agents. I never want to let any of them down.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you have a solid plan - I knew the first year wouldn't be easy financially, but I planned for that.
- Build a village! Having a team of people who believe in you even when you do not believe in yourself is so important.
- Set your goals! If you don't know how to find someone who can help. If you don't know 'why' you're doing this, you need to figure that out.
