Top recruit is a Recruitment company Specialising in Travel and Tourism, Digital Media, IT and Data Science, Banking, and Financial and Construction. Tell us about yourself
It's been two and a half years since I had a visit from the personnel director at the company that I had worked for, for over 30 years to tell me that due to the pandemic, my role as Head of Recruitment was now redundant. It threw me into a spin, and despite being able to understand that I wasn't being targeted personally, I was absolutely devastated.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
After spending several weeks staring into my computer, panicking and wondering, "what next?" I decided to set up "Top Recruit" so that I could put my decades of recruitment and travel industry knowledge to good use. So, with the help of my good friend Nicola Fitzgerald, I built the website and began to explore strategies and make plans. Then came the second problem due to the pandemic; absolutely no one in my industry was recruiting! We started working on Construction, IT, and sales roles and very quickly made some extremely successful placements.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges of being a business owner in Recruitment is persuading people to work with us.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Expect not to pay yourself for the first year as you grow your business (I was lucky enough to have a redundancy package to live off).
- LinkedIn and social media are fabulous for free advertising.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
From our humble beginnings, we continue to grow, taking on new and prestigious accounts on a weekly basis and taking steps to grow our business by recruiting new additions to our teams. I am grateful to all our clients who have supported us in our growth. We absolutely love what we do; the best bit is giving individuals opportunities and guidance in securing great careers with wonderful prospects.
