Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Vaughan, CEO of Together Digital, located in Cincinnati, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Together Digital is a collective of influential women in digital – who choose to share their knowledge, power, and purpose by coming together to make meaningful connections and deeper conversations happen. We are a safe space to speak about and seek out the changes we want to see in ourselves, our industry – and the world.

Tell us about yourself

I am here because another woman believed in me. As a member turned Owner & Chief Empowerment Officer, I pride myself on being a humble, dynamic, and versatile leader who believes in the power and limitless possibilities that sit at the intersection of vulnerability, purpose, and collaboration. My desire to pay it forward and create positive change in the personal and professional lives of others is what fuels me - as well as the Together Digital mission I now work to protect and preserve as its biggest champion and CEO.

Prior to Together Digital, for nearly 14 years, I worked as a passionate, creative leader and award-winning Creative Director. Creating compelling and effective digital and video content for brands like Ford, Pringles, Febreze, Pantene, Gillette, Folgers, Biore, Jergens, Walmart, BlueCross Blue Sheild, Humana, and Fifth Third.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I transitioned city-focused events-based networking organization into a thriving and supportive online and offline National community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a woman-owned mission-based business: access to funds and affordable services. The systems and odds are stacked against us. But we work smart and with what we have.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear on what your business service is and why it needs to exist.
  2. Be clear on your mission and vision and speak to it often.
  3. Especially if you're a minority, know that more hustle and hard work is not always the answer.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't wait for it to come to you. I've long wanted to own my own business and, for so many years, denied myself the ability to dream or, much less take the leap. I was privileged with the opportunity to take on and over a business, I was passionate about. I am grateful but also realize chances like this are few. Don't wait. Do it now. Someone needs your business.
