Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina Sibley, a certified life and business coach based in San Roque, Cadiz, Spain.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help my clients access and develop their inner courage, so they can be whoever they want to be and do whatever they want to do to have a more meaningful life. My customers are generally women 40+ who want to make changes but are hesitating as the unknown feels daunting. I help women leave corporate jobs, take a more rewarding career, or start their own businesses. Some of my clients need help with leaving a toxic relationship to start over again. Others are tired of pretending to be someone they're not and want to be who they really are. Some of my clients simply want more adventure and fun - they want the courage to travel solo or start a new hobby.
Tell us about yourself
I used to be a corporate trainer and coach and left a highly stressful job way back in 2000 to start my own business. I'm a fully qualified and certified life and business coach and NLP practitioner. I've survived a lot of the big 'mountains of life' - a cheating husband, divorce, bankruptcy, and business failures and now live the life of my dreams. Originally from the UK, I now live in Southern Spain on my own and enjoy travelling and salsa dancing. In 2019 I was a sofa sloth but then began hiking, and in 2022 I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa - twice! So I've climbed the metaphorical and the real mountains! Each day, I'm motivated to do what I do because I read and hear stories of women who are held back by fear and doubt. I want them to feel the way I feel when they break out of their comfort zone and take action toward the life they deserve. I want to inspire people to have more success, more adventures, and more fun.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is making a difference to the clients I work with. In the past, I've won awards, but these are nothing to the accomplishment of giving someone the courage to make a change for the better.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is dealing with uncertainty. There is no regular paycheck at the end of the month, and you have to 'put yourself out there' constantly. However, I believe that the rewards are worth all the setbacks that are encountered.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make a decision and commit to it. The first step is definitely deciding you're going to do it.
- Have a plan - get things set up before quitting a well-paid job.
- Work with a coach - nothing great is ever accomplished alone.
