What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Certified Natural Cosmetic Formulator, Amna Abdelhadi, and her husband, Omar, formulated a simple 100% natural skincare line in hopes of tackling the most common challenges new parents face. Inspired by the two girls who made them parents, their line of 'Simple, Natural, Care Products' was created as an alternative to toxic products on today's shelves. It caters to expectant mothers, new parents, toddlers, and tweens, who look for a greener approach to life. Their goal is to help make new parents' lives easier by removing a bit of the anxiety that comes along with being responsible for a tiny human's well-being through offering skincare that is effective, clean, and transparent about what goes in it.

Timi&Mila is a cruelty-free, environmentally friendly skincare line that hopes to play a part in making our world a better place for our kids by offering skincare that affects neither their health nor the environment they live in.

Tell us about yourself

When I had my first daughter in 2015, I was a typical mother who had no physical experience about what it takes to care for a child. My anxiety levels shot over the moon, and I was not expecting that! No one warns you how much time your brain would take processing information and think about things that are good/bad for your baby, and skincare is no different! When I started learning what mainstream products use as their ingredients, I was mortified! I couldn't imagine there was this little regulation about what is considered "safe," and every time I went to the store to buy care products for my child, it was a nightmare! From diapers to lotions to shampoos and body wash and body oils and wipes! It was all a big mess …. above all that, my girl suffered from eczema and chronic rash! I had to fix this - so I did! I studied and got my certification in cosmetic formulation and started making my own products so I wouldn't get a panic attack every time I needed to apply lotion on my baby! Timi&Mila is a product of love, hard work, science, and experience!

We want to make a difference in the world, whether it be to baby's health or the environment they live and grow in. We don't want to be constantly living with "what if …" in the back of our minds! We know for a fact that our ingredients are good and that they work magic, and we let you know too! The experience we offer with using Timi&Mila products is always one with peace of mind!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We started our business in Alexandria, Egypt, in 2017. We moved to Canada in 2019 and launched our business here in 2020; that's our first big accomplishment. The second one is surviving two years of COVID with a small business and always getting amazing reviews from our customers about how great they think our products are!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having patience and will to keep going! I sometimes wake up and think that I cant do this anymore, and I would rather work something that pays the bills and doesn't require all this mental/physical hard work! But the. I look at my girls and remember why I started all this, and I push through the bad days!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be prepared! Don't go into business thinking; let's wing it! I am all for starting right now! But don't just jump blindly.
Spend as little as possible at the beginning because there will always be hidden costs that you won't be able to avoid!
Make sure it's something you are willing to fight for to succeed and that you'll have the patience to wait for that success! It takes a long time; nothing happens overnight!

Always find a support system that will help you through the bad days and celebrate you on your good days! It makes all the difference when you surround yourself with amazing people who support and love you!
