Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alyssa Zacher, Founder of Timeless Treasures Photography, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a lifestyle photographer who offers a wide variety of photo sessions to families, couples, and individuals. My clientele ranges from anyone who wants special moments captured.

Tell us about yourself

I have always loved sitting behind a camera. But my love for photography really bloomed when I became a mother. I just knew I wanted countless images to remember each moment. I started off just taking photos of family, then I tried my hand at capturing moments for families within my community and fell in love with the photography business; that's when I decided to take the next big step and make my photography business my full-time job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm so proud that I have been able to build up my clientele as much as I have. Having many clients who stand beside me and help my business grow is what makes all of my dreams possible. Building my business up as much as I have has allowed me to launch my own website, which I feel very accomplished doing.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part is definitely the beginning of your business. It takes lots of time and patience to build a business from scratch, with many new skills earned. It's hard to figure everything out, but it's important to make time and effort to put into the business you intend to grow.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research on the type of business you want to grow. Know everything there is to know about it and what steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals.
  2. You never stop learning. There will always be something new to learn in the entrepreneurship world that will help you grow as a self-employed business owner.
  3. Keep true to yourself. Do what makes YOU happy.
