Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry, but not sure what to expect? Then check out our interview with the florist, Raysa Farah, owner of LK Verdant, in Lancashire, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
LK Verdant is an independent florist committed to offering timeless arrangements of flawless quality. With a philosophy that promises luxury, elegance, and attention to detail above all else, sumptuous bouquets handcrafted by myself are perfect for those who are seduced by beautiful fragrant flowers. The home of LK Verdant is a harmonious haven. The private studio is situated in the heart of the northwest. Seasonal on-trend blooms are sourced and hand-delivered daily from the Netherlands, filling the workbench I dedicate my time to perfecting. The understated elegant bouquets have a unique name that is personal to me. We welcome creativity and offer a bespoke service too. LK Verdant takes pride in hand delivering each gift warm-heartedly with you in mind, Always!
Tell us about yourself. What motivates you each day?
I am Raysa Farah.. foremost a mummy to two toddlers, a little (a lot) flower obsessed, and owner of LK VERDANT florist with a creative portfolio of being Featured in Vogue weddings, GRAZIA, BBC, the stylist, and more. I am also a psychology graduate with experience working for the NHS researching cancer. When I met my now-husband Mohammed, who encouraged me to chase my childhood dream of becoming a florist, I now wake up excited for the day ahead of creating for my local and national community. I was committed to being an occasional florist until the demand for intimate wedding setups became a success through the pandemic. Getting lost in creating tablespaces curated for my clients’ colors, themes, and scents in mind have become my favorite type of floristry. Also, wanting our wider national community to enjoy an LK VERDANT experience, we launched our sister brand ‘FLOWERFIX,’ a letterbox flower company which has become a huge success and keeps us very busy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I must state which stands out the most in my portfolio, which was to present to VOGUE weddings audience on their Instagram account. A dream come true for me. However, if I'm entirely transparent, creating for my everyday clients brings me an equal amount of joy. Knowing that my clients chose me to spend their hard-earned money with is a huge compliment and leaves me with great happiness.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, everything else comes secondary. This is going to sound crazy, but it’s the truth. My family, friends, and partner have become very understanding of my dedication to my business. Balancing work-life balance with great passion and love for my business can be a challenge. I have to force myself to take time off work.
What are the top tips that you'd give to anyone looking to launch, run and grow a business today?
Research understanding and educate yourself on your audience and your craft. -Offer something different and unique, and do not stop showcasing your work. Even if you believe it isn’t ‘perfect,’ your audience will appreciate seeing your progress and behind the scenes. - be consistent in your quality of product, communication with clients and suppliers.
