Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in human resources services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina-Marie Wohlfield, Founder of TIMAWO, LLC. and Co-Founder of HRUnite!, located in Fraser, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At TIMAWO, LLC, we provide HR consulting and talent management services to our clients. We partner with the organizations we serve to assist them in navigating people strategies through HR solutions and training. Our customers are organizations of all sizes and industries that believe in people-first strategies. In addition to our core services, we also provide support to organizations who are seeking to divest (sell), acquire or merge through analysis of HR processes and integration support/risk assessment.

Tell us about yourself

I started TIMAWO, LLC after spending over 25 years in corporate Human Resources with a vision of helping organizations invest in the tools (or resources) that support and enhance the employment experience for those working within them. To have the honor and opportunity to celebrate the wins, successes, and achievements of the teams we support is the greatest thank you and reward as a collaborative partner for our clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was celebrating my first profitable year of business that exceeded my initial business plan targets. It solidified that I made the right decision to leave corporate and start my own consulting firm.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a leader of a service provider, you must recognize your limitations. Finding the right extended resources and being able to look at outsourcing or system upgrades as an investment versus an expense is hard, especially when you are in the early stages of your company. Recognizing that your time spent on some tasks that can be made more efficient or be performed by others allows you as a business owner to focus on core parts of the operation that require your leadership or directly impact your ability to grow (revenues).

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work with a trusted advisor (legal/accounting) to properly set up your business.
  2. Find an entrepreneur or peer advisory group to support you in your journey to allow you to learn from others.
  3. Establish your core area of focus and stick with it (especially as a service provider/consultant) - staying in your lane early allows others to know what you do (and why).
