What's your business, and who are your customers?
TYS, LLP is a public accounting firm that specializes in helping small businesses, owners of small businesses, and individuals with all of their tax and accounting needs. We also provide proactive consulting strategies and solutions to businesses and individuals regarding a variety of business and financial topics. Having been business owners themselves for over 20 years, we are experienced enough to help you get the most out of your business.
Tell us about yourself
I have always enjoyed helping people. Helping businesses and individuals achieve their own definition of success. As a business owner for over 20 years, a collegiate hockey coach for ten years (5 years coaching women and five years coaching men), and a national public speaker for both Paychex and the AICPA, I have been able to help many people and businesses. In public accounting, every day is new and different. You never know what type of questions your clients will be asking you. Then there is the whole development of your staff. So fun to watch them grow and learn new things in the office.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being responsible for the livelihood of over 25 employees and their families and also have over 1,000 clients that trust us with their taxes and accounting needs.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing your people and the expectations of clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be realistic about everything.
- Surround yourself with experienced advisors/teammates.
- Have the courage to ask for what you want or need.
