Adventurous and Memorable Experience - Tijon

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Berglund, CEO of Tijon, located in Tucson, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a boutique Parfumerie that originated in French St. Martin and has a location in Charleston and soon-to-be New Orleans. We offer our perfumes and perfume-making classes for which over 16,000 people have made perfume at our business to date.

Tell us about yourself

I began my career at age 24 as a Chief County Prosecutor. After years of law, lobbying, and managing trade associations transitioned to my love of chemistry and the creation of perfumes. I now work for enjoyment as opposed to the need for money.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a unique concept of perfume-making experiences that began as an afterthought to our perfume business and now is our driving force and niche.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The diversity of management tasks for a small business owner from marketing to managing employees to ordering supplies to P.O.S. and accounting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have experience in the business or research it thoroughly.
  2. Have sufficient capital.
  3. Know where every dollar is going out and where it is coming in from.
