What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own Tiffany Kells Photography, a boutique portrait business in South East Wisconsin. My customers are men and women who value their families and pets and want unique works of art created for their homes..

Tell us about yourself

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts while in college and opened my own studio in 2018. The greatest motivation for me in my business is to be able to use my creativity to tell people's stories. I love meeting new people, learning about what and who they love, making them laugh, and creating portraits that capture their personalities.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have always wanted to create beauty in the world, and I get to do this for people every single time I photograph them. I am living out my dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things with being a business owner is creating some semblance of work-life balance. I love what I do, so I tend to want to just keep working. Creating balance in my daily life is something I have to continually work at.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If it doesn't make your ship sail faster, it's not a priority. Spend your money and time wisely.
  2. You're not going to be good at everything. That's OK, keep going. When you can, hire out the tasks you aren't good at (or hate doing).
  3. Listen to and seek the advice of respected professionals in your field. Friends and family may give you advice, but if they're not respected professionals in your field, take it with a grain of salt (or ignore it all together).
