Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Snowise, founder of Thrive. How, located in St Paul, MN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My consultancy is Thrive.How. I help individuals and organizations connect with their purpose, lead authentically, and live sustainably. In a world that feels like it is going mad due to all the stress, I help people and organizations find ways through the craziness of it all.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business because I didn't want to subscribe to the inflexibility and lack of work/life balance that I saw in the professional world. Having come from consulting in New Zealand, when I moved to the US, I had two babies under two, and I didn't have kids to never see them. So I decided to go out on my own and create something that would deeply speak to my passion but also work with what I wanted for my life.
I'm motivated by making a difference. I'm working to create the world I want to see - one where there is generally less stress and a whole heap more joy and fun.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a sustainable business out of nothing. I'm really proud of sticking with my vision and now realize that if you focus on what you can do, which is to do really great work, then the world will find you.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Holding a dream and a vision when perhaps you're the only person who can see it. Being an entrepreneur can be scary and lonely at times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Action matters. Don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. Just do something and iterate on the way.
- Believe in yourself. Work on your mindset. You have to have faith that you'll succeed.
- Keep going. Success doesn't happen overnight. You have to stay in the game, showing up, and bit by bit, the momentum will grow.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
The best bit about working for yourself is that you get to make all the rules! I have to admit; I love that bit.
