What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a family physician of 20 years, I founded Three Sisters Laser + Medical in 2018 to share my passion for gynecological health and skin health with patients. My clinic is nestled in the mountains and natural beauty of Canmore, Alberta, where we serve patients invested in their total health, inside and out. My team offers bioidentical hormone therapy, laser skin services, cosmetic and medical injectables, and specialty treatments and skincare to improve skin health and help patients become the best version of themselves, naturally.
Tell us about yourself
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a doctor, and I love dedicating myself to providing exceptional care to my patients. Being a breast cancer survivor and a woman in menopause, my personal health journey prompted me to seek a better model of care for myself and for my patients. I began broadening my medical and scientific knowledge in order to deliver medically-proven therapies to slow down the aging process and help my patients feel energized, focused, and in control of their health. My approach is unique in Canada: using a biochemical and diagnostic approach, we can prevent disease and preserve health. My focus now, as much as ever, is to add quality years to my patients’ lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In late 2022, I retired from general family practice in order to deliver a higher level of medical care. Drawing on my experience with breast cancer and hormonal changes, I shifted the focus of my clinic to deliver specialized services to patients facing similar challenges. I now offer comprehensive hormone assessments that challenge the medical status quo - and that help my patients restore mental focus, energy, bodily control, and joie de vivre using biochemical science and the latest medical research on bioidentical hormone replacement. I live what I preach, and I love sharing my passion for happy hormones and healthy living with the patients in my care.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Launching a new business model is risky. You need to invest in your personal growth, be confident in your abilities, and build a service that delivers exceptional value to your clients. The hardest part of the journey was letting go of the status quo, challenging my old way of thinking, and braving a new path while finding my footing at the same time. I love delivering pinnacle medical care in a bold and effective way - and it took a leap of courage to make it happen.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your strengths and build upon them. Know your weaknesses and surround yourself with people who can fill these gaps. Don’t burn yourself out doing it all.
- Confidence in your abilities needs to be supported by facts. Believing in yourself is important, and receiving honest feedback affirming your abilities and their value to others is crucial. Surround yourself with people who provide honest feedback.
- Define your client and aim to please. Rather than being all things to all people, specialize yourself to deliver incredible value to a target client group who will resonate with your service or product.
