What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a personal trainer, writer, and tarot reader - a fun mix! At its essence, my business is about helping people feel confident and energized in their bodies, which includes accessing and working with their emotions.
Ultimately I love to help others realize their own agency, step into self-trust, and feel like they know how to tap into their intuition and lead themself through life. I usually work with people who seemingly have what they need but are feeling stuck or like something is missing. My writing consists of my own reflections on life, lessons learned, and my own journey navigating the human experience.
Tell us about yourself
I started working as a personal trainer in my early 20s, which was what helped me learn my style of helping people. I like to guide and coach, but it's important to honor each person's differences. There is no one correct way or easy set of rules for anything, whether it is exercising, nutrition, or spiritual and emotional development.
Each person has their own journey, and I love to be a guide to help someone connect with what it is they need to nourish themself more deeply. I am motivated when I get to act as a mirror. I believe we all have the answers we are looking for, but sometimes it is helpful to have an objective view to reflect things back to us.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was the release of my first book! I like to guide through storytelling, and I like to bring to the surface the things we all feel and experience so that we can better relate to one another and, at the very least, know that we are not alone.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is getting done the things that live outside your passion or your zone of genius. Setting up email automation, building a website, and having a marketing message, for example. These are all essential aspects of running a successful business that usually has nothing to do with the actual product or service you are offering.
Eventually, you may be able to outsource them, but for most, especially in the beginning, you have to wear all the hats—marketing, product development, tech support, etc. That's what it means to be a business owner, and I think a lot of people don't realize that when they start to chase their dream.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You don't need to know everything. In fact, you never will, so just get moving and figure it out as you go.
- Embrace imperfection. It's going to be messy.
- Be mindful of who you take advice from. You don't need everyone's opinion, just the ones who are either an expert at what you're asking or who know who you are and how you want to operate.
