Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tad Daughety, Co-Owner of Third Eye Collective, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a 27,000-square-foot multimedia studio. Our facility includes 25 pre-built sets, three audio recording studios, a loading dock for easy load-in and load-out for major productions, and a huge 100ft by 100ft back lot for outside productions.
We specialize in audio recording as well as photography and videography. We cater specifically to the man or woman with a dream. The majority of our clients are engineers, photographers, and videographers who cannot afford the luxury of owning a large studio. We rent them space and time so they can bring their own clients to the facility and further their journey through their specific market.
Tell us about yourself
We started this business ten years ago and have come a very long way in that time. During our first nine years, we rented a 7000-square-foot warehouse that we turned into a mansion of creativity. We have seen countless people go from artists nobody knows and watched them transform into household names with millions of dollars of revenue generated. Being able to provide a vibe that helps motivate people to achieve this type of success inspires us to go hard every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It’s hard to rank successes as a business owner because so many successes have contributed to the place we are now. However, we are most proud of our ability to have bought our own place rather than renting. We transformed a hoarder’s paradise into a high-end music studio. It took a lot of time, effort, and energy, but the end product was better than any of us could’ve ever imagined. Our new location is the future of our business.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think the hardest thing about owning a business is knowing that there will be times when things aren’t going to be great. Income may come slow, ideas that took up lots of time and energy fall through, and markets shift. The hardest part is most definitely staying positive during the hard times. But as any successful entrepreneur knows, it is those times when things are not great that build the foundation for your future.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You must put 100% into whatever you are doing. Doing anything 50% will ensure you never make it where you are doing. Always have faith in yourself and your process.
- Have faith in your team. You cannot do everything yourself, no matter how good you think you are. Find good people to have around and build them as you build yourself. A good team is behind every successful business.
- Do not get discouraged. It will not always be sunshine and rainbows, most of the time it will be rain, especially in the beginning. Stay motivated, stay positive, and know in your heart that one day it will all make sense.
