What's your business, and who are your customers?

I call myself a Travel Expert. My ideal customer is the kind of person who wants a meaningful experience in a new land. The discovery of this new land with this approach gives you joy, peace of mind, and a celebration of what is great in life and the world.

Tell us about yourself

My love for travel is deep-rooted in the way I grew up. I was born in Jamaica and have lived in different parts of the world. From Munich to London to Charlotte, my journey has been exciting. The travel lifestyle my parents were so fond of is etched into my mind and personality, and it is the only way I know! I adore traveling and exploring new places because there is so much to see and so much to learn.

As a person, I am a dreamer – constantly thinking creatively of new and improved ways to live life to the fullest (and then acting on it!). I am also a caring and affectionate person with a penchant for forming long-lasting relationships. In a nutshell, the lifestyle I was afforded by my parents taught me to think and only work for myself.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being Thia, the Travel Expert that has helped me help countless solo travelers, families, groups, and couples realize that we are more than travel – Not to forget that I am also a bookkeeper with a huge love for crunching numbers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Having to walk alone. Knowing that you can shut down your computer but can not do the same to your creative mind.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Not sure about giving tips, but I can ask them these three things:

  • How do you know that you are ready?
  • Are you passionate about what you believe in?
  • Can you be aggressive and soft at the same time?
