Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Catallo, owner of Panorama Wellness Group, located in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a group of trauma-informed therapists who love to work with individuals, couples, and youth who don’t necessarily “fit the mold.” You know yourself and your body well and want to advocate for yourself, whether with medical professionals or for your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Our holistic approach to our work means that we work together as a team and within the Langley community. We want to provide the best counseling and wellness services for you throughout Murrayville, Langley, Fraser Valley, and across Canada.
Tell us about yourself
I became a counselor because I wanted to help women heal from relational, sexual, and emotional trauma. I started the Panorama Wellness Group because I could see that you don't heal trauma by just looking at one part of your life. You heal it by looking at your whole being. I am excited to see our team grow through what we can offer and through the connections we're making in our area so that we can provide a holistic approach to the work that we do with our clients.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been seeing the people on my team flourish by identifying who they do their best work with and stretching themselves in what they provide. I also feel that it's a great accomplishment to see the people I work with feel like a team even though they're rarely in the office together.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is having the responsibility of ensuring that the people who work with you feel challenged, accomplished, and content with the amount of work they have and the quality of work that they can provide.
Being a business owner makes your world just a little bit smaller and can feel a bit isolating. Many friends don't understand the challenges I face or the time it takes to build a business. It's been important for me to build a community amongst other Canadian group practice owners to feel so alone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be realistic. Don't think that you're going to reach all of your goals in the first year. Have friends and peers to encourage and challenge you. Have people who will ask the hard questions and others who will cheer you on. Be patient.
It takes six months to 2 years to know that your business is going to work. And that can be a very stressful and energy-draining, and energy-giving time. Be patient with yourself. Know that this is a season. It won't last forever.
