Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business solutions but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joshua Brummel, Co-Founder of Therapy Flow, located in Chicago, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Therapy Flow unlocks the door to simple, sustainable client acquisition. Last year, the Therapy Flow team worked with over 200 practices in their flagship program, using their 7-figure practice flow. This flow gives group practices step-by-step systems for their marketing, sales, and recruitment as they scale to 7-figures and beyond. Should a practice scale marketing or hire more clinicians first? What does sustainable marketing for more cash-pay clients look like? How does an owner prioritize and implement new things into their practice? In Their Flagship done-with-you program, Therapy Flow drives clarity into business questions, build sustainable marketing, creates a value-driven sales process, and implements systems that help run a thriving practice.
Tell us about yourself
Entrepreneurship started for me at age 10 when I started going door to door reselling dog toys and collars from the dollar store for a profit. I made some money and bought my first lawn mower to start mowing people's yards, and more businesses grew from there. At the core of each item wasn't just money but was providing something that clearly satisfied and filled a need for a client. To this day, seeing a happy client with a result from our team is the #1 motivator for working hard and serving more people.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
When I look back at all the private practice owners we've helped build amazing businesses, two things stand out. #1, the life changed by a business that creates wealth and consistency for the practice owners, and then #2, The thousands and thousands of people who have received quality mental health care as a result of great practices being in business.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being Decisive, there are many great ways to grow a business and provide value to clients. You can't and shouldn't do it all. Knowing and deciding what is the best course of action that will drive the most impact is a hurdle you have to leap over every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- There are no shortcuts, except for the exceptional people you hire to help build the business - focus on building your core team, and growth will follow!
- Slow is smooth, smooth is fast - Anytime I value speed over simplicity and smooth execution, the business suffers, and things slow down. Build momentum for the long run, not speed, for the sake of speed.
- At the end of each day, I tell myself, "today's problems are now tomorrow's" It's important to create rest, recovery, and separation. Not only does this allow me to be more present in all other non-work activities, but it produces energy for work the next day.
