Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Faith Bredwood, Owner of The Yummy Cottage, located in Melbourne, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create plant-based whole food products that excite the taste buds and offer nutrition! Our products make healthy eating easier and more enjoyable. Our customers are health-conscious and or curious people who want healthier, sustainable food options or substitutes.

Tell us about yourself

The Yummy Cottage started out of a desire to create healthy food options that taste amazing. In early 2017 I began experimenting with cooking and developing simple products with simple ingredients. Big dreams and small steps have gotten me through the rough research and development phase of perfecting products like the Yummy Burger, our Green Eggz, and our raw desserts. I am motivated and determined daily by the awakening of many people in society who strive to live healthier and fuller lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment to date is making it through the research and development stage. When I first started this endeavor, I had little capital and minimal support. None of which deterred me long-term; looking back, it's easy to wonder how I made it; however, what is ahead will make it all worth it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The responsibility and commitment that comes with the business are one of the hardest things to get used to. Starting off, I didn't have a big team or systems, and essential had to learn as I went along and figured things out.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Education, being educated about the field you desire to enter, would be helpful when starting a business.
  2. The market, clearly define who your target market is, where their shop and how you aim to connect with them.
  3. Quality, focus on producing quality products and or services so that you build strong relationships with your customers/clients.
